COVID-19 UPDATE: EMPOWER IS CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR IN-PERSON VISITS BUT WE ARE TRAINING VIRTUALLY AND ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS!!!
"In light of the Governor’s new mandate and restrictions we have decided to pause our in-person training from Saturday, December 12th until Monday, January 4th. We intend to resume all in-person activities at 8am on January 4th.
I strongly believe that we have a choice in every area of life. We are currently faced with the choice of following the mandate or disobeying it. The choice for emPower is to follow it. While I personally believe that the importance of our essential industry is being overlooked and that we are being unfairly discriminated against (just a 0.0023% infection rate from 50 million check-ins per IHRSA - this includes big box gyms), we have vowed to care for our clients and community. As such, we must at least attempt to do our part for the greater good. We will be able to look back and confidently say that we were not a part of the problem. However, we do recognize that at some point we must say this is not the way and that we have done our part. So, we intend to do our part once again… but it cannot continue indefinitely. Therefore, we plan to reopen at 8am on January 4th.
With that being said, there are many factors that went into this decision. First of all there is a spiritual component. As a Christian business owner, walking with God is paramount in my decision making process. I begin with prayer and searching The Good Book for answers. I was reminded that God establishes those in authority (Romans 13:1) and that we are not to lean on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5) of why or how He is going to use them for His purpose. I was also reminded (by my daughter’s bedtime bible story last night) of Caesar Augustus who, for tax purposes, created a census forcing people to return to their home cities. No one likes paying taxes. Many fuss about them, believe they are unfair, and even feel politicians who levy them are doing it for control and to hurt certain people. But, this is the reason that Mary and Joseph returned to Bethlehem (Luke Ch 2) - fulfilling the prophecy of the birth of The King! So while no one saw the connection at the time, God had a reason for who he placed in power and their decisions… and it is the reason we celebrate Christmas in 2 weeks! So I rest assured knowing that God has good plans for me and emPower (Jeremiah 29:11-13).
The next factor we must explore is the financial impact. Since we have the ability to comply and move to a virtual platform (unlike traditional gyms where you simply rent equipment) we can weigh the costs associated with staying open vs operating remotely. In this situation we are already operating at reduced income due to the pandemic. To stay open with 100% of our expenses and potentially lower income yet is simply not feasible. Switching to a remote platform allows us to significantly reduce overhead and petition our landlord for some assistance. Perhaps the biggest piece of the financial side of things is our insurance. Our insurance company has already told us that they may refuse to cover us for anything (Covid or otherwise) that occurs if we do not comply with the Governor’s mandate. It is also not as simple as changing insurance companies. Most providers say the same thing, and there are very few out there that cover what we do in the first place. A major claim that is denied by our insurance company could put us out of business. So while it isn’t all about the money… it is all about the longevity of the business. We can only serve our clients if we are here to do so.
We understand the importance of exercise in overall physical and mental health. 1 in 5 Americans experience mental health illness which in turn puts them at a 40% higher risk of developing cardiovascular and metabolic diseases than the general population (per the CDC). We know that exercise is one of the best antidepressants and one of the best ways to relieve stress! So we aren’t going to leave you hanging. Here is how we are going to coach you through this:

“First off emPOWER is so much more than a gym, it’s more of a family that you can’t wait to see at 5am. The coach’s infectious positivity is what you need at 5am in the morning! I started training with emPower with an idea to lose some fat around my middle and generally tone up. What I achieved with emPOWER’s help was far more than this! Using kettlebells, dumbbells, and various bodyweight exercises, my overall strength and fitness improved so much in a short amount of time. I was able to perform exercises I would never have attempted on my own. Each workout is tailored to you, so you can achieve exactly what you have discussed. The SHRED/SPARTA classes are interesting, ever changing, and challenging. The instructors are energetic, knowledgeable and somehow find the balance between encouraging you to work hard but never going over the line where injuries can occur. “Challenge brings change” is a motto they live by. Let me tell you that these coaches have created something serious, I’ve been struggling for years with back pain until now. I thought my lower back would be my “Achilles’ heel” forever. Until you do the work, it is hard to understand how strong you can become through body-weight training. Not only am I in the best shape of my life, but my body moves and feels completely different. Literally two minutes into the exercises I realized something special was going on here and I feel stronger in everything I do. I have learned so much from emPower, the coaches are willing to share their expert knowledge and answer any questions you come up with. The coach’s tips on nutrition are excellent and the focus/dedication is clear part of emPOWERs success. The coaches are energetic, fun, committed and inspirational…and I can’t recommend emPOWER enough! It’s been almost a year after coming to emPOWER, and I’m still training hard and have no intention of quitting any time soon. The coaches have given me not only direction in the gym but a completely different perspective on fitness and health.” |

The trainers at emPower have taken accountability to a new level and have created a supportive gym environment that encourages change to occur from the very first exercise. This accountability is paramount to my success and I appreciate it more than you’ll ever know. Since starting Shred in February, followed by Shred 2, I have come to realize that transforming my body actually started with the transformation of my mind. I was able to see clearly that the ‘I can’t’ and the ‘I don’t have time’ were roadblocks to my success. By seeing small glimpses of progress(like push ups on my toes), I was able to persevere even when my body disagreed. Throughout Shred, Mike and Omar pushed me to new levels, levels in which I would have previously said ‘I cant’ because I didn’t believe in myself. Mike never gave up on me, he kept encouraging me to go further, but most of all.... he BELIEVED in me, which inspired me to believe in myself. By renewing my mindset, believing in myself and realizing my body’s ability to change, I have been able to make small changes that have influenced more a dynamic shift in my outlook on life. You have created a gym atmosphere that not only encourages physical fitness but inspires members to believe in themselves and their God-given ability. I am proud to be a part of this great group of people. Thank you for your encouragement and accountability |
